Basic Performance Tips

The very first tip for getting better at PC gaming is making sure you are getting the most out of your PC. If your computer lags, gets low FPS (frames per second), has high ping, or has frequent, random slowdowns, you will find it very hard to be good at any competitive games.

Now, before you go out and spend thousands of dollars on the latest and greatest gaming PC, try the following tricks to improve your current PC's performance without spending a dime:

1. Create an exception for each game in your anti-virus and firewall
Sometimes the real-time scan functions of your anti-virus or firewall software will cause your game to have lower performance than it should have. If you are opposed to turning off your AV/Firewall completely before a gaming session, simply add an exception for each game to your anti-virus or firewall's real-time scan functions.

2. Download and run Gamebooster before each gaming session.
This (free) simple program automatically turns off unnecessary programs and services with the click of a button. Simply turn it on before a gaming session, and turn it off when you are done.

3. Minimize your in-game video settings
To maximize your frames per second try lowering your resolution a bit, and minimizing your other ingame settings. In my wise, less candy is worth it for better performance, though this may not be true for others.

More to come. =)

  1. The Gamebooster program really helps me out in PvP and I die less because now my FPS isn't christmas colors.
